On April 3, 1974, a tornado tore through downtown Monticello during the largest tornado outbreak recorded up to that time. The courthouse square now holds a memorial park, a salvaged roof ornament, and a statue of the man the county is named for.

This is a history quest. Please be respectful at the memorials.
