France Park: Quarry Cliffs & Paw Paw Falls

An old limestone quarry turned lake, a waterfall on Paw Paw Creek, and gems that only show up in the finder.

West of Logansport, France Park is a 550-acre county park built around an old limestone quarry. It was worked from the 1890s into the 1930s and is now a clear, deep lake ringed by rock cliffs. A short walk away, Paw Paw Creek spills over a waterfall. Scuba divers train in the quarry on weekends.

Best at midday, when the sun is high over the quarry and the water looks its clearest.

There is a gate fee: $5 per person on weekdays, $10 on weekends and holidays (2026 rates). Pets must be leashed and are not allowed on the beach. The swimming area is closed until further notice. Park rules forbid climbing, fishing, jumping or diving off the cliffs, on penalty of being expelled from the park. Stay back from the quarry edge. Take only photos: the only gems you collect here are virtual.

Play safe: stay on public sidewalks and grounds, respect private property, and never read your phone while driving.
