Sunrise on the Virgil Park Boardwalk

Wetlands, prairie and a boardwalk at first light, then a stroll to the painted tunnel.

Virgil Park opened in 2024 as a trailhead on the B&O Trail, with boardwalks over restored wetlands and prairie. It's named for Diana and Hall Virgil, who spent more than 20 years turning an abandoned railroad into the trail. At sunrise the wetland wakes up: birdsong, mist, and low light on the prairie grasses.

The park opens at 5 a.m., well before sunrise all year, and has year-round restrooms and parking off CR 300 N. After sunrise, walk about 0.7 miles east on the trail to the mural tunnel under the Ronald Reagan Parkway. About 1.5 hours. Dress for the chill, and stay on the boardwalk and paths.

Play safe: stay on public sidewalks and grounds, respect private property, and never read your phone while driving.
