A New Palestine whodunit (all characters, the float and the festival in this story are fictional). The night before a fall parade, the star float, a twenty-foot papier-mâché dragon, disappeared from the float barn. By morning there was nothing left but a trail of green glitter.

The suspects:
• Hazel Brandt, the festival chair, who had the only key
• Gus Pennington, the rival float builder, who lost to the dragon last year
• Tilly Quinn, drum major of the community band, who wanted a dragon for her halftime show
• Otis Marsh, a retired train buff who grumbled that the dragon blocked his view of the tracks

Four evidence notes are hidden at exact spots along Main Street and the Depot Trail. Open the finder near each spot, read every note, then name the culprit. About a mile on foot.

Main Street is US 52, a busy truck route: stay on the sidewalk and cross only at crosswalks. The railroad beside the Depot Trail is an active CSX main line: stay on the trail, never step onto the tracks or the gravel beside them, and cross only at the marked street crossing when the signals are quiet.

Play safe: stay on public sidewalks and grounds, respect private property, and never read your phone while driving.
