Kentland’s humorist, a presidential rally on a front lawn, and a time capsule for 2076.

George Ade was born in Kentland in 1866, wrote "Fables in Slang," had three plays on Broadway at once, and built Hazelden, his Tudor Revival estate near Brook. In 1908 he hosted a rally there for William Howard Taft.

Fun fact: Hazelden was listed on the National Register on September 27, 1976, so this quest launched on its 50th anniversary.

About 30 miles of driving between Kentland and Brook. The Hazelden house is tours-by-appointment only; the markers are free from the roadside.

Play safe: stay on public sidewalks and grounds, respect private property, and never read your phone while driving.
