The Heart of Lebanon History Walk
A Carnegie library, a first settler, a castle, a carved name and the night Lincoln stopped in town.
Play this quest in ShenanigoLebanon was founded in 1830 and named by a settler who thought the tall trees looked like the Biblical cedars of Lebanon. Abner Longley, who settled here in 1832 as the first settler inside the new town, built its first building on the south side of today's square.
This long walk reads the square like a book: the 1905 Carnegie library, the courthouse lawn, a stone carved with a family name after a 1937 fire, an 1883 storefront signed by its builder, the Lincoln marker, and the Cragun House. About 1.5 miles. Allow two to two and a half hours.
Play safe: stay on public sidewalks and grounds, respect private property, and never read your phone while driving.
